Sudans Präsident angeblich zurückgetreten

Wie Human Rights Watch gerade meldet, scheint der sudanesische Präsident dem Druck der Straße nicht mehr Stand gehalten haben und hat seinen Rücktritt erklärt:

"Sudan's president Omar al-Bashir has reportedly stepped down from power this morning, following months of protests against his rule. The situation is Khartoum is still unclear, and - if confirmed - it's unknown whether there would be a democratic process to choose Bashir's successor. Al-Bashir is wanted by the International Criminal Court for crimes of genocide in Darfur."

Inzwischen ist bekannt geworden, dass das Militär die Macht ubernommen hat und von einer zweijährigen Übergangsphase spricht. Es wird sich zeigen, ob die Protestietenden sich davon  beeindrucken lassen werden oder nicht.

Heute jedenfalls wurde, wie der Guardian berichtet, gefeiert:

"Despite a lack of concrete information about what was happening for much of the morning, tens of thousands of Sudanese marched through the centre of Khartoum in jubilation, dancing and chanting anti-Bashir slogans. “People are coming in droves,” said one onlooker. Protesters outside the defence ministry chanted: “It has fallen, we won.”
