Gaza: Angriff auf neues Pier für humanitäre Hilfe

Laut us- und israelischen Angaben hat es Angriffe auf ein neu errichtetes Pier für die Anlandung humanitärer Hilfe in Gaza gegeben.

Seit längerem gibt es Pläne, die sich nun konkretisieren, wie über den Seeweg direkt Hilfsgüter vor allem in den Norden des Gazastreifens gebracht werden können. Damit soll auch der Grenzübergang Rafah umgangen werden, der weiter unter Kontrolle der Hamas steht, der von vielen Bewohnerinnen und Bewohnern des Gazastreifens seit Monaten immer wieder vorgeworfen wird, die zweige große Teile der Hilfe für ihre Kämpfer ab und verkaufe andere für überteuerte Preise auf dem Schwatzmarkt.

Weil die Hamas und mit ihr verbündete Milizen die Kontrolle über die Hilfslieferungen auch weiter in der Hand behalten wollen, versuchen sie andere Zugangswege zu verhindern. Vor diesem Hintergrund ist wohl auch der jüngste Angriff auf dieses Pier zu sehen:

Members of a terror group in the Gaza Strip launched mortars at an under-construction pier for a US-led project to bring aid into the Palestinian enclave yesterday, the military says.

The mortar attack occurred as United Nations officials were touring the site with Israeli troops on the coast of central Gaza, the IDF says in response to a query on the incident.

The IDF says the UN officials were rushed to a shelter by troops amid the attack.

N officials also confirmed the mortar attack to the Associated Press, saying there were no injuries.

“The terrorist organizations continue to systematically harm humanitarian efforts while risking the lives of UN workers, while Israel allows the supply of aid to the residents of the Gaza Strip,” the IDF adds.

The attack marks a shaky start to the construction of the pier, a project that the US is spearheading to surge humanitarian aid into Gaza.
