Damascus, SANA-Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister , Bashar al-Jaafari , said that NATO expansion towards East won’t only threaten Russia, but it threatens many countries, therefore Russia has categorically rejected the step.

Al-Jaafari, in an interview with Syrian and  al-Ikhbaria TV channels on Tuesday, said that Syria, based on its principled stances, supports Russia’s recognition of the independence of Donetsk and Luhansk Republics, adding that Syria, two months ago, showed its readiness to work on establishing relations with the two republics in the context of  mutual interests.

He added that incidents in the People’s Republics of Donetsk and Luhansk and Russia’s declaration of recognition of their independence from Ukraine are relevant to geopolitics and therefore all are concerned in this issue.
