Iranian Protesters are in Desperate Need of Free Internet

The people of Iranian are chronically unhappy with the Islamist regime that runs ther country. It is because that regime is an ideological, totalitarian regime that keeps interfering in the people’s lives and oppressing them, as well as spending the national fund on terrorism and proxy wars in the Middle East. Recently, under heavy international sanctions, the regime tripled the price of gasoline. As a result, the hard-pressed Iranian people flooded the streets to protest against the tyranny of the regime across the nation.

What the regime did was to immediately shut down the Internet so that the pictures and films of the protests won’t appear on social media, where they can be seen by the people all around the world. In the meantime, the regime has started to crack down on the protesters. The regime’s heavily armed police, security and militia forces attack people and shoot them to kill. Films have appeared of regime helicopters that shoot into people from above. Hundreds have been killed so far, and a larger number have been wounded or arrested. If things go on as they are now, the bloodshed in Iran will reach massive proportions.

That is why I and my activist friends around the world decided to publicize the Iranian protesters’ plight be creating a number of public petitions on social and government media, including change.org and petitions.whitehouse.gov. The purpose of these petitions is to encourage the governments and other concerned parties to provide the beleaguered Iranian protesters with a satellite Internet service that the Islamist regime cannot disrupt, so that the news of the protests can get out of Iran, and the protesters won’t be left at the mercy of the regime’s juggernaut.

As you might already know, the people of Iraq and Lebanon have been protesting against the interference of the Iranian regime in their countries for a couple of months now. These protests across the region are in fact connected to one another, and their connecting factor is the tyranny of the Islamist regime and the desire of the people in the region for freedom and peace. As such, I would like to ask all the freedom-loving people of the world to be the voice of the Iranian, Iraqi and Lebanese protesters and do whatever they can to help them achieve democracy.
